Whether you’re someone who regularly battles with skin redness - maybe you suffer with rosacea or sensitivity - or you get the occasional flare-up from blemishes, allergies or eczema, it’s worthwhile getting some skincare go-tos lined up for when redness strikes.
It can be as simple as switching to a kinder, more nourishing moisturiser, or it might be about adding some super-soothers into your routine, opting for products with barrier-repairing ingredients like Ceramides, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and squalane.
Our top five recommendations for soothing redness with your skincare
1. Niacinamide
Niacinamide has been shown to ease inflammation, which as well as helping to calm redness also means it can have brightening, clarifying and pore-refining effects on the skin, too. Superdrops Brightening Niacinamide contain 10% Niacinamide - a dropperful a day can be mixed into your serum or moisturiser.
2. CICA
Created specifically for reactive skin that’s prone to redness and rosacea, Happy Face Extreme Relief Cica Cream is an exceptional biomimetic Ceramide-gel which contains the well-known skin soother Centella Asiatica (also known as CICA) and delivers extreme relief for highly sensitive and dry skin.
3. Ceramides
Ceramides are the building blocks of the skin’s barrier. Superactive Ceramide Capsules deliver skin-identical doses of Sphingo-and-Glycolipids, which help support your natural Ceramide production, for longer-lasting moisture and dewier, glowier skin. Plus each capsule is made of Seaweed, so they're fully compostable.
4. Gut Health
Experts are only just scratching the surface of their understanding of the symbiotic link between our gut health and our skin health - but what we do know is that supporting the health of your gut can do great things for your skin. Our Supergut™ Great Skin Formula supplement was created using the latest understanding of the gut/skin axis: it contains a blend of three microbiome-supporting bacteria, each containing 1 billion good bacteria as well as Zinc, a trace mineral that supports healthy skin, and Copper, which supports healthy skin pigmentation.
5. Moisturiser
From Switzerland (where they know a thing or two about advanced, nourishing, high-end skin creams, Super Healthy Skin™ Daily Moisture Lotion is filled with hyper-hydrators and Shea Butter to nourish skin, as well as Physavie to help fight inflammation and help restore the skin barrier
Need to cover redness?
If you have rosacea or experience patches of redness, you’ll be familiar with the struggles of achieving an even base for your makeup. Applying layers of concealer on top of layers of foundation will likely do the trick, but it’s not a great solution if you want a natural-looking finish or prefer a lightweight feel.
Luckily, there’s an alternative in the form of green colour correctors. While putting bright green makeup may initially seem slightly alarming, it all makes sense when you consider colour theory: green and red are opposite each other on the colour wheel, which means they cancel each other out.
