The Surprising Reasons Your Skin Looks Dull Right Now

Summer may be over but that doesn’t mean your glow has to go into hibernation. The first step to overcoming dullness is determining what’s causing it. Is it the common culprits like central heating and the low humidity that naturally occurs as we move towards winter? Or is it something a little bit more complicated than that?

During the colder months, we adopt various habits that could be behind a lack of radiance. Steaming hot showers are one example. While they may be comforting in the cold, the excessive heat can strip away natural oils from your skin, meaning it loses moisture more quickly, resulting in dull, dry skin.

Plus, we eat differently in the winter, opting for more comfort foods that are rich in carbs and sugars (and that’s not even mentioning holiday season!), which can lead to inflammation and skin dullness. A lack of fresh, hydrating fruits and vegetables can also deprive your skin of the antioxidants and vitamins needed to stay radiant.

Throw in a lack of Vitamin D from dwindling sunshine and less time spent outdoors getting fresh air,  and it’s a recipe for radiance reduction - even if you’re the most scrupulous of skin-carers. Here, our founder MK shares her five easy ways to reset your skin for the new temperature normal…

  1. Upgrade your foundation. Try this whole-system Hyaluronic Acid-infusion Superluminous Skin Glow Filter, either as - or mixed into - your foundation. The benefits? Immediate glow. All day dewiness. Blurring. Brightening. Luminosity. You may also want to grab a tube of this super hydrating Tinted Under-Eye Serum.

  2. Bench your foamy cleansers for the moment (even if they’re gentle). Grab yourself a rich, creamy, milky option to help avoid any ‘barrier-stress’ in your skincare system. Jeju Daily Cleansing Milk is a makeup-melting, skin nourishing, calming superstar, while our Jeju Daily Rehydration Mist is a post-cleanse, skin-moisture restoring marvel.

  3. Boost your skin-barrier. Add more Sphingolipids, Ceramides and Fatty Acids into your skincare routine with these best-selling pink capsules. After cleansing, twist one open and apply directly onto the skin. These work brilliantly as an extra hydrating layer under moisturiser. The result? An instantly dewier, glowier complexion.

  4. Exfoliate dead, dulling skin cells to reveal a smoother, healthier looking face. Remove the hard keratin layer on the top of your skin with our iconic Dr Glycolic Glow Toner. It contains the perfect AHA mix, but also delivers brightening Niacinamide and soothing Polysaccharides. Apply after cleansing: twice a week on dry skin, 3-4 times a week on combination or oily skin.

  5. Don’t forget your hands. Every time you wash them, natural oils are lost in the process. Our nourishing Plantastic Hand Cream has Niacinamide to boost elasticity and help reduce the appearance of age spots, Glycerin to hydrate, and Shea Butter to help soften skin. The 100% natural plant-oil scent is fabulous.
