What do do and what not to do when applying sheet masks…
It’s fair to say we LOVE sheet masks at Beauty Pie - so much so that we have a whole wardrobe of them, and have also developed a scientific approach to using them.
What to do
1. Exfoliate first.
This provides the smoothest, clearest possible surface, so that your sheet mask will both adhere beautifully to your skin, and also give the ingredients in the sheet mask the best possible chance of penetrating into the skin and working their magic. (Tip: If you’ve never tried our Wonderscrub, this is the moment.)
2. Keep sheet masks in the refrigerator.
The reason? For added ‘ooh’ when you apply. There’s nothing like pressing a cool, soothing, serum-infused sheet mask into your complexion, sitting back for ten minutes and letting the ingredients take hold. A sheet mask on its own is lovely; a refrigerated face mask is next-level.
3. Get out the gua sha
Towards the end of your sheet mask time, use a sculpting/firming/depuffing tool like cryo globes or a facial roller or gua sha gently on top for a bit of extra firming and to really drive those ingredients in. Hello, sculpting AND dewiness.
4. Follow with something moisturising.
You may feel that the sheet mask was enough, but if you want to add an eye cream, moisturiser or oil on top at the end, go ahead. It will lock in all that lovely moisture, ensuring the effects of your sheet mask last as long as possible.
What not to do
1. Don’t cleanse after a sheet mask.
You’ll wash off some of the moisturizing ingredients, and undo all that good work. Cleanse and exfoliate before the sheet mask, then apply moisturiser afterwards, if you’d like.
2. Don’t leave a sheet mask on too long.
Any longer than 30 minutes, and the mask can start to reabsorb the moisture, which kind of defeats the object of adding all those lovely hydrating ingredients into the skin in the first place. Stick to the allotted time, but make half an hour your maximum - no falling asleep with it on.
3. Don’t waste any serum that’s left in the packet.
Squeeze it out! And either smooth the excess onto the skin when you remove the mask, or show your hands some love and apply to the backs of your hands while your sheet mask is on.
