Katharine Mackenzie Paterson

Renowned as one of the nation's most sought-after super-facialists, Katharine Mackenzie Paterson has been treating skin for 15 years and her results-driven, personalised approach to skincare has earned a prestigious clientele, including VIPs, and recognition from top editorial titles like Vogue and Harper's Bazaar.

Her method hits the elusive point where tech meets touch: innovative treatment devices and the latest scientific knowledge on ingredients combined with intuitive massage techniques and holistic advice.

We’ve teamed up with Katharine to design the ultimate at-home facial, combining the glow-boosting powers of Youthbomb™ 360 Radiance Concentrate with her years of hands-on expertise. Here, Katharine takes us through each step as well as reveals her golden rules for healthy skin…

Beauty Pie Youthbomb

Katharine’s top tips for glowing skin

According to Katharine, the best thing you can do to achieve healthier skin is to focus on supporting your skin barrier. “Skin barrier breakdown contributes to dullness, dryness, inflammation and breakouts. I always recommend incorporating ingredients like Peptides, Ceramides and Hyaluronic Acid to strengthen and protect the skin barrier and advise against too many harsh, stripping ingredients and treatments.”

Her other top tip for skin health is a balanced lifestyle. “Getting enough sleep, not drinking too much alcohol, steering clear of too many ultra-processed foods and just being kind to your body is so important,” she says.

The Ultimate Glow-Boosting Facial

“I love Beauty Pie products because they’re luxurious and sensorial but also evidence based and results driven, which is the balance I always strive for in my facials,” Katharine explains. “I’ve chosen a selection of products for their ingredients and skincare benefits but also because they have beautiful textures, or they smell gorgeous. It has to be a pampering experience as well.”

Step 1: The Double Cleanse

Katharine is a big fan of double cleansing. “There’s no need to double cleanse in the morning, but at the end of the day, it’s key, especially if you live or work in a city. Particulate matter from pollution really sticks to the skin and causes free radical damage, so it’s important to thoroughly cleanse when you get home.”

Start with Plantastic™ Apricot Butter Cleansing Balm, which has cold-pressed Rosehip Seed Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil and Vitamin E, that melts away makeup, oils and impurities. “You can massage into skin with fingertips - make sure you’re getting under your chin and down your neck, as well. Then, get your fingertips slightly wet and continue to massage. The balm emulsifies into this beautiful milky texture. Then remove with a wet washcloth.”

Then, get two pumps of the Jeju Daily AM/PM Multi-Phase Purifying Cleansing Milk and massage into your skin before removing with warm water and a flannel. It has Jeju Cherry Blossom, soothing Bamboo Grass, Liquorice-Root Extract and Meadowfoam Seed Oil for antioxidant action and soothing properties. “The flannel also provides gentle mechanical exfoliation, which helps achieve that glow.”

Step 2: Mist

“When skin is still slightly damp, spray either the Über Youth™ Pro-Biome Mist or Japanfusion™ Energy Essence Mist, depending on your skin needs. Japanfusion is great if you feel quite dry and dehydrated skin as it has Hyaluronic Acid, and Über Youth™ is perfect for lacklustre or breakout-prone skin.”

Step 3: Mix and Mask

To turbocharge the Japanfusion™ Bio-Ceramide Moisture Mask, press Youthbomb™ 360 Radiance Concentrate into skin prior to application. “This technique really locks in all the incredible ingredients of the Youthbomb™ Concentrate,” Katharine says. “Leave the mask on for 20 minutes before removing excess with a washcloth or a little warm water.”

Beauty Pie Sculpting Facial Roller

Step 4: Massage

Facial massage is one of the most important parts of Katharine’s in-clinic treatments (she’s kind of famous for it, actually) and can help reduce puffiness and brighten skin while feeling amazingly relaxing. “The Sculpting Facial Roller makes DIY massage really easy,” she explains. “Start in the centre of your chin and work your way along the jawline. Once you reach your ears, lift the roller and place it back at the centre of your chin to repeat the process (in other words, don't drag that roller back and forth). Repeat the same motion, working up the face - starting at the corner of your mouth and rolling up along the cheekbones, then you can use it under your eyes and along the forehead.

For a truly luxurious experience, add in a hand and arm massage too using Super Healthy Skin Deluxe Body Moisture Crème. “Using your thumbs, run your finger up the inside of your forearm, where a lot of tension is stored. Also focus on the base of the palm of your hand, making big, slow circular movements. Then using your thumb and forefinger, slowly pull and stretch each finger from the base up to the fingertip.”

Step 5: SPF (daytime only)

If you’re doing your at-home facial in the daytime, you’ll need to finish with SPF. “Sun protection is the single greatest thing you can do for skin ageing prevention,” says Katharine. “It helps to prevent collagen breakdown, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles and fine lines.”
